Gas Policy Development

The Department published The Green Paper on Energy policy in Ireland on 12th May 2014. This paper sets out the main developments in the energy landscape since the publication the previous Energy White Paper in 2007.

Following publication of the Green Paper, the Department launched a Stakeholder Engagement Phase. The Department invited observations and suggestions from interested parties. The Department also teased out the most important points highlighted in submissions received and identified policy points for consideration.

The public consultation process contributed significantly to the development of the new Energy White Paper for Ireland.

The Energy White Paper  'Ireland's Transition to a Low Carbon Energy Future 2015-2030'  is a complete energy policy update. This document provides a framework to guide policy and the actions that Government intends to take from now up to 2030.

The Energy White Paper takes into account European and International climate change objectives and agreements. It also takes into account Irish social, economic and employment priorities. As Ireland progresses towards a low carbon energy system, this policy update will ensure secure supplies of competitive and affordable energy to our citizens and businesses.
